Making battery recycling safe and convenient across Connecticut

Connecticut’s battery stewardship law will create a convenient, statewide approach to collecting and recycling household batteries. The Battery Network partners with retailers, household hazardous waste and solid waste agencies, and producers to build an accessible collection network to ensure end-of-life and damaged or defective batteries are managed safely and responsibly across the state.

More About the Law

On June 10, 2025, Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont signed Public Act 25-34, establishing a statewide battery stewardship law in the state. The law requires battery producers to fund and operate a program that provides convenient, free collection and recycling of covered portable and medium-format batteries, including damaged or defective batteries, across Connecticut. The Battery Network will submit its stewardship plan to the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection by the July 1 deadline, covering the more than 250 producers currently participating in the program. As a result, producers already participating in The Battery Network program will automatically be included in the Connecticut plan and do not need to take any additional action at this time.
