How Yesterday’s Batteries into Tomorrow’s Power. Recycling a battery doesn’t just “make it disappear.” It goes through a careful process designed to recover materials and reduce environmental impact.
How Battery Recycling Works: The Step-by-Step Process
1. Collection
You drop your batteries at a participating location. Sites safely store and consolidate materials until they’re ready for transport.
2. Sorting
Batteries are transported to a sorting facility to be sorted by chemistry—Lithium-ion, Ni-Cd, NiMH, Alkaline, Medium-Format and more. Proper sorting ensures safe transportation and efficient recycling.
3. Transportation
Certified carriers move batteries to processing facilities following strict safety standards.
4. Processing
Recycling partners use mechanical and chemical processes to break batteries down into their base components such as nickel, cobalt, lithium, steel, and plastic.
5. Material Recovery
Recovered materials re-enter the supply chain, where they help create new products—including new batteries.

6. A Cleaner Future
Recycling batteries reduces waste, conserves resources, and supports safer communities. What you do with your batteries matters.
The Network That Makes Battery Recycling Possible
Safe battery recycling wouldn’t be possible without a trusted network of partners. It depends on a coordinated group of collection sites, sorting partners, and approved processors all working together.
From the moment a battery is dropped off to the point where materials are recovered and reused, this network helps ensure everything is handled safely and responsibly.
Our Collection Network
Our collection network includes public and private sites that choose to support responsible battery recycling, making convenient, safe drop-off possible in communities nationwide.
