Leading the charge in electric bicycle (e-bike) battery recycling
E-bikes are changing how we move, explore, and commute. And the momentum isn’t slowing down. That’s why more than 60 bicycle industry leaders have partnered with The Battery Network to create the first U.S. industry-wide, voluntary e-bike battery recycling program that keeps batteries out of landfills and protects people and communities.
Today, this national program gives brands, retailers, and riders a trusted way to recycle e-bike batteries and keep valuable materials in circulation.
One program. A nationwide network.
We work with e-bike manufacturers, retailers, and communities across the country to make battery recycling accessible and trusted. When you partner with us, you tap into a proven network that handles everything from collection to transport and processing with safety at the center.
For Manufacturers, Importers, & Brand Owners
E-bike manufacturers, importers of record, and brand owners can join our program as stewards to support responsible end-of-life management for the batteries they bring to market.
What you gain:
- A turnkey compliance solution that meets evolving industry expectations
- Access to a national collection network
- Expertise in safe battery handling, transport, and regulatory guidance
- Transparent reporting and program insights
- A partner committed to powering a sustainable future
Through manufacturers’ participation in this program, we are able to provide customized recycling kits, compliant transportation and logistics, safety resources, and consumer education.
Participating Brands
Participating brands help make this program possible. Their support covers the costs of collection, safe shipping, and recycling, which is why we can only accept batteries from participating brands.
For Retailers
Participating in the e-bike battery recycling program is good for your business, your customers, and the environment. Retailers are where safe battery recycling becomes real for riders.
As an e-bike retailer selling a participating brand, you can enroll at no cost to have your location serve as an e-bike battery collection site. Once enrolled, your location is added to our public drop-off locator (and featured through PeopleForBikes), so riders can easily find you and return their e-bike batteries for recycling.
What you get as a participating retailer:
-
- Safe battery handling and preparation training
- Recycling kits for end-of-life and damaged/defective e-bike batteries
- Top of the line lithium-ion battery safety materials
- Educational materials you can share with staff and customers
- Coordination of collection, transportation, and recycling of e-bike batteries
- Practical guidance on charging, storing, and transporting e-bike batteries safely
You give riders a trusted place to bring their batteries. We handle the rest.
For Riders (of participating E-Bike brands)
Recycling your e-bike battery is the easiest way to protect your home, your trails, and your community. When your battery reaches the end of its life (and it’s from one of our programs participating brands*), drop it off at a participating retailer and we’ll take it from there.
Why it matters:
- Prevents fires caused by damaged or aging batteries
- Protects the environment by keeping hazardous materials out of landfills
- Helps turn yesterday’s batteries into tomorrow’s power
- Supports a circular economy for e-mobility
To help riders stay informed, we teamed up with PeopleForBikes to launch Hungry for Batteries, a national campaign that makes it easy to understand how to handle, store, and recycle e-bike batteries safely. It’s a fast, friendly way to learn what to do—and what not to do—so you can ride confidently and recycle responsibly.
Safety at every step
E-bike batteries require careful handling. That’s why our program is built around safety:
- Trained collection sites follow clear charging, storage, and transport guidelines
- Tailored packaging and shipping practices help reduce the risk of incidents in transit
- Only trained, approved partners handle and process collected batteries
Safe battery recycling starts with you. From there, The Battery Network and our partners take it the rest of the way.
